Scoring

What is a good score on USPS Exam 474?

Also called: Passing score, Eligible vs Ineligible

USPS does not publish a public passing cutoff for Exam 474. Candidates are typically told they are Eligible or Ineligible. Among people who discuss scores, Eligible results are often described in a 70–100 range. A higher Eligible score generally ranks you higher on that office’s hiring register, which can mean being contacted sooner — it is not a job offer.

What “Eligible” actually means

Eligible means you passed the assessment for that posting and can be considered when a vacancy opens. You still go through the pre-hire list, local contact, background check, fingerprints, and a conditional offer. Ineligible means you did not meet the bar for that invitation; rules on retakes come from USPS, not from this site.

A working target while you practice

Because there is no public cutoff, independent prep uses a conservative practice target: aim for about 85% or higher on Work Scenarios and Check for Errors in timed mocks. Tell Us Your Story has no public right-or-wrong key; treat the keyed profile as a consistency guide. When all three sections are strong on mocks, you are as ready as a prep course can make you.

Frequently asked questions

Does a 90+ score guarantee a job?

No. Score only ranks you on the register. Hiring still depends on vacancies, how fast you respond, background checks, and the local office.

Where should I confirm official scoring rules?

On the USPS careers site and in the assessment invitation. This page is independent explanation, not USPS policy.
